DPR Live is not only one of my favorite Korean artists but one of the artists I would most strongly recommend regardless of genre or language. If you like hip hop, you seriously need to give DPR Live a listen. Actually, no matter what your music taste is, you should listen to a couple of his songs because his unique style can fit a lot of different tastes.

Live, real name Da Bin Hong, is just one part of the DPR crew. Live is the rapper and singer; Ian (Christian Yu) is the director as well as the founder of Dream Perfect Regime (DPR); Cream is the producer; and REM is the production assistant and is in charge of merchandise. These four, along with a few others, make up DPR, and together they are using their creativity, talents, and passion to create something incredible.

Since Live, Ian, and REM all grew up outside of Korea, they are fluent in both English and Korean. His bilingual background shows through his music, as fans can find a lot of English parts in his songs. This is something that sets him apart from other Korean artists because it offers English-speaking fans more opportunities to sing along to his songs, something I think we all can appreciate.

The frequency of English in his music is just one of the many things that makes DPR Live such a unique artist. His sound is really refreshing and different from other hip hop artists out there. And while all of his songs have a very "DPR" vibe to them, they don't sound repetitive. This is something that is really valuable to me personally because I get so bored with all of the artists whose songs all sound the same. You know, the thing of "if you've heard one of _____'s songs, you've heard them all." That's not the case with DPR Live. Each of his songs have their own unique sound, while still fitting his personality and style.

While I love every song by DPR (seriously, every single one of them, and that never happens to me), Martini Blue and Text Me are my two favorites. They have more of a fun, playful, hip hop vibe that always succeeds in energizing me and lifting my mood. Jasmine (MV at the bottom of the page) is another one of my top picks, and it has a much softer and more chill vibe. These are his three best songs (in my opinion), and a great place to start when diving into his music.

Some other things that make DPR Live such an amazing artist are his live performances and music videos. Unlike some artists (more than I wish was true), Live doesn't rely on Auto-Tune at all. He sounds the same live, living up to his stage name. Ian is in charge of the directing, filming, and editing of all of DPR's music videos, making it a bit surprising that they're all so beautiful and high quality.

Although DPR Live doesn't have a ton of songs out yet, having only started coming out with music in 2017, Ian recently dropped a hint they may be coming out with new music soon.
